Stunning pattern for last days of August

I may have heard angels singing when I cast on

It’s weird. Every July 31st, I look back on the past several months of summer in the northern hemisphere…All of the gardening, knitting retreats, maybe a vacation I’ve taken…all that fun stuff feels like it’s just ramping up and hitting its stride at the end of July.

But then August hits and boom! Suddenly, the end of the season is in sight. School buses will be doing their rounds, the public pools will close for the year, and soon the ice cream truck will only come around on weekends.

Just like Calvin in one of the greatest comic strips ever written*, I get this big sense of urgency that I gottagetmoresummeringdone before summer is, in fact, over! Just one more bite of a juicy peach, just one more day trip to the lake, just one more summer knitting project.

This beauty is knit up in the ever-gorgeous Sojourn base from Miss Babs in the absolutely perfect Old Gold colorway. And seriously y’all, I’m in love. The yarn base is like kittens and sunshine had a baby, and you may hear actual angels singing when you cast it on.

I’ve been wearing it around my neck in the house, even in the heat, and I triple-dog dare you not to constantly pet it while on the needles.

And as if one stunning yarn wasn’t enough, I also worked up a gorgeous sample in A Luxurious Fingering base by Yarn Snob Yarns. This one is a merino-silk-cashmere base, and the low micron count to the merino makes it feel like it’s been spun from Tribbles (yes, I’m a Trekkie). I used the Porcelain Rose colorway:

It’s a great project for one of those fingering weight skeins you may have picked up in your travels (maybe last August?) or that special skein or two that have been too gorgeous to knit up just yet. Semi-solids or skeins with some very light specking are best. Just watch your gauge, check your yardage, and print out the pattern.
