I admit it. I grumble at change.
New user interface on Facebook? Grrr. Give me the old one back. The grocery store has rearranged the snack aisle to put the peanut butter next to the wheat thins? Makes my nostrils flare.
But no change elicits a collective grumble more than going back on Standard Time. Yeah, we get it. At northern latitudes, winter days are gonna be short no matter what. And we can’t have kids walking to school or waiting for the bus in complete in the dark. Darn that tilt to the earth!
But wow—these 4:30 pm sunsets on the east coast can be a little hard to take.
We all hopefully have some ways to get through the short days/long nights. I put up bird feeders for a little early morning entertainment outside my windows, drink lots of hot tea, and cozy up to some binge-worthy tv shows with my knitting.
TV-knitting requires something simple enough to not need constant attention, but interesting enough that you don’t get bored. So when some of you asked for a shawl version of the Lady Whistledown Cowl, I complied and knit this up entirely while watching tv or riding (not driving!) in the car:
It’s the same stitch pattern used in the cowl version, but with the color order and shaping switched up to give a really cool effect. The woolen spun yarn (Rowan Felted Tweed Colours) keeps it incredibly light for the gauge, yet still warm and cozy.
And because it’s nearly Thanksgiving in the U.S., it’s also time for my yearly Big Sale™️. Every pattern in my Ravelry shop is 40% off now through cyber-Saturday (Nov. 30th). There’s no code needed, so no need to worry if you miss the little text box for a code haha—and it makes it easy for you to gift a pattern to a knitting friend.
Wherever you find yourself in the coming weeks, I hope that you are safe, well, and find lots to be thankful for. Happy Thanksgiving, Happy Holidays.
Peace, love, and knitting,
Mary (aka Lyrical Knits)
Hi Mary. Found my way over here so if you switch....
Mary, what are some of your favorite shows or movies to watch while knitting? I'm looking for some suggestions, doesn't matter if content is Old, New, or holiday. TIA
