New pattern + Super Fun retreat
just because some watery tart threw a knitting pattern at you....
Strange knitwear designers lying in ponds is no basis for a system of knitting, but it does make for a terrific hat. A nice small one. And not too expensive.*
No, I didn’t design shrubbery for your head (don’t tempt me…), but you might be able to wield supreme power with this mandate from the masses…
I give you The Watery Tart Hat:
It’s a fun, quick knit with an adorable stitch pattern that resembles water lilies on the surface of a pond. It uses very little of the contrasting colorway, so if you have any precious leftovers of a DK weight Spincycle (hey, that stuff is too spendy to waste!), this is a great way to let it shine.
But I warn you: wearing such a silly hat may result in Silly Walks, eating spam sandwiches, cavorting with dead parrots, and joing an autonomous collective while mistaking a beacon for the Grail.
It’s on sale for a while on Ravelry, so click the button to get there:
In other news, I hope you join me, Casapinka (the Cat Lady:), and Imagined Landscapes (the Gnome Lady) at next summer’s Miss Babs 20th Anniversary Retreat!
It’s outside of Chicago on a lovely, quiet campus where we can knit, chat, and eat delish food (no spam sandwiches on the menu, so darnit we’ll have to bring our own) all weekend.
There are 9 different classes for you to choose from, a few yarnie talks by Babs and Veronica, and of course a yarn marketplace where you can check out and squish all the Babs yarns.
Click here to join us and choose your classes. Can’t wait!
Meanwhile, Happy Knitting!

P.S.S. Wanna know something hilarious?
On an iphone, the Photos app will have a sparkly little “info” button with a plant leaf on it when the app recognizes a plant. When that little leaf popped on on the above photo, I figured it was for the purple Sweet Alyssum also in the pic. I hit the little button to check the plant ID, and no….the photo app thought that the HAT WAS A PLANT.
And not just any plant. It thought my hat and pom pom were some sort of CACTUS:
A Bunny Ears cactus for the body of the hat, and a Globe cactus for the pom. Obviously, these means I actually have designed shrubbery for the head…:P
Ouch.
OK, you really got me with the hat = cactus part. 🤣 Sometimes the best part of the post is the part you can't even plan for when you're writing!
Great hat and you totally grabbed my attention with the Monty Python bits! Off to Ravelry for the pattern.
