A perfect crescent shawl

it banishes the dreaded hump!

Back in 2012, I knit a crescent shawl and it ended up with hump in spite of following the pattern and making gauge. You know, that pointy part near the cast on that pulls up instead of letting a slight curve happen?

My nostrils may have flared a bit.

Now, if you’re a fan of humps, no shade here. You do you. But the hump bugged me enough to tap into my inner knitting engineer & figure out what was going on and how to ease it.

My mods worked so well that I published a cool, humpless (“Humphrey”?) crescent pattern called Sweet Caroline (was also shocked that, at that point, no other pattern on Ravelry had that name! Bah, bah, bah). Just look at the humble, humpless beginning:

I also offered a freebie for newsletter subscribers called A Tale of Two Shawls. It’s more of a how-to recipe than a full pattern, and it’s probably how you found me originally.

I’ve tweaked the method a bit over the years and am happy to offer a new, perfectly humpless pattern that incorporates a few of the small changes. It’s called A Perfect Crescent Shawl and it’s great for summer knitting:

It’s worked up in fingering weight yarn from Miss Babs, but the pattern can be easily worked in a heavier (or lighter) yarn if you like.
