If you’re a lifelong learner, you already know that trying something new requires stretching yourself a bit, that practice makes perfect, and that you most definitely can do hard things.
But sometimes, ya just gotta say “Screw it.”
Sometimes, after an epic knit that, yes was fun, but maybe all those short rows nearly killed you *cough*…or you just need something easy and mindless on your needles that gives you something pretty at the end.
Think: a 3 st CO, a color changing yarn + a semi-solid background that practically do the work for you, and easy garter stitch interspersed with some slipped stitches.
It’s called Sister Act, and it comes in two choices for the stitch pattern (yes, both versions come with the one pattern).
First up is Sister Act: Twisted Sister.
This one is as easy and low-maintenance as a it gets. Can you “k4, slip1” with your contrasting color? And then mindlessly “knit to the last st,” with the main color? Then you’ve got this! I’ve polished up the edges for you with a few simple tricks, so all you’ve got to do is enjoy some fun potato-chippy knitting.
If you’re into a slightly more refined look that takes just a bit more attention, then you have the option of Sister Act: Soul Sister:
No, you’re not seeing double! This version is knit in the same colorways (and photographed in front of the same brick wall) and features a herringbone slip stitch pattern that, while still easy, does take a little more concentration. Totally worth it, but big sisters usually are:)
Both versions are completely charted and have line-by-line directions all written out, so you can use whichever works best for your own knitting and learning style.
For the yarns, this is a fun collaboration with Yummy 2-ply from Miss Babs and Making Tracks Lite (the color changing yarn) from Junction Fiber Mills in Vermont. The Making Tracks Lite colorway, Psychedelic, was dyed especially for the Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival, and is back in stock on Babs’ website here. I’ve paired it with the Yummy 2-ply in Gold Leaf to really show off the complementary colors of Psychedelic.
Of course, the pattern is super scraptastic, and you can easily use leftover bits or a variegated colorway for the CC if you’re ok with weaving in some ends.
And of course, the pattern is on sale at a discount for a while on Ravelry as well as the Payhip shop (no code needed—details on the pattern page).
And since my last “how to wear” video was so appreciated, I made another one for you with some tips on ways to wear a scarf…which seems like it should be simple, but if you’re even slightly accessory-challenged (like me), you might find it helpful, too.
Enjoy! And Happy Knitting,
Mary (aka Lyrical Knits)

Hi Mary! I bought your Sister Act pattern and I am just starting my gauge swatch. Would you mind telling me which row I should start and end on to make a 24 stitches x 44 rows? Is this an appropriate place to ask?
As a lover of short rows I forget that they may not be everyone’s jam.
